Beachy Dream Gets 'Dream' Trip At Buffalo Raceway

by Brian J. Mazurek, for Buffalo Raceway

HAMBURG, N.Y. --- It was certainly a 'dream' trip for Beachy Dream at Buffalo Raceway on Saturday night (May 11) and it resulted in a win in the featured $12,000 Class AA Open Handicap Pace.

Sitting chilly behind the pace-setting Charmbo Orbit, Beachy Dream (Kevin Cummings) squeezed through an opening at the top of the stretch and managed to edge by China Dream (Billy Davis Jr.) to capture the victory in a seasonal best 1:54.4 over the fast track.

Beachy Dream suffered a heartbreaking nose setback last week against the same company but this time as able to reverse his fortunes by the exact margin.

Charmbo Orbit (David McNeight III) set the fractions with splits of :28.4, :57.1 and 1:26.2. Drafting along in second, Beachy Dream wiggled free and won the charge to the finish line against China Dream who made a valiant attempt in the passing lane. Harry Hoo N (Shawn McDonough) took third place.

"I was able to squeeze out just in time," a relieved Cummings said of getting Beachy Dream in position for the drive to the finish line. "Midway down the stretch, I knew it was going to be a battle with China Dream. I knew I had it at the line."

Owned by Mike Torcello and trained by Gerry Sarama, it was the fourth victory in 13 tries for Beachy Dream (If I Can Dream-Beachy Girl). The 8-year-old gelding has now produced $32,045 in winnings this season and $212,185 in his career.

There were a pair of sub-featured $10,000 Class A paces on the program.

In the first division, Littlebitaclass made it two straight victories by sneaking past Manceiver (Cummings) in the shadow of the wire to take the neck decision in 1:54.1.

Driven by Drew Monti, Littlebitaclass (Santanna Blue Chip-Aspirine Semalu) is an 8-year-old gelding that is owned by Tessa Roland and trained by JD Perrin. It was his fourth win in 16 starts, jacking his seasonal earnings to $25,685 and $207,055 lifetime.

The second bracket saw Low Card lead from start to finish and post a length triumph over Raylan Givens in 1:57.0.

Driven by Ron Beback Jr. and trained by James Clouser Jr., the 6-year-old gelded Low Card (Cam's Card Shark-Low Country Love) has now found the winner's circle four times in 16 outings for owner William Emmons. The victory upped his bankroll to $26,462 in 2019 and $153,884 lifetime.

Beback Jr., Jim Morrill Jr. and Monti all produced two driving wins on the night. Perrin finished with a training double.

Racing will continue on Wednesday evening with a nine-race program set for 5 p.m.
