HAMBURG, N.Y. --- After breezing to a comfortable four
length victory last week, Sportsmuffler was put to the test on Wednesday night
(April 17) in Buffalo Raceway's $11,000 Class A Handicap Pace for the filly and
mares and she came away acing it.
Getting a front end trip with Billy Davis Jr. in the sulky,
Sportsmuffler ($3.90) put up some lively splits over the fast track and had
just enough to turn back the challenge of You Mach Me Crazy in 1:55.3.
Scoring from the three post, Sportsmuffler managed to win
the shuffle to the open quarter. With fractions of :28.3, :56.2 and 1:25.2, it
turned out to be a four-horse charge to the wire with Sportsmuffler never
surrendering and posting the neck decision. You Mach Me Crazy (Kevin Cummings)
rallied up the passing lane to take the place position with HP Sissy (Jim
Morrill Jr.) finishing in third.
Owned by Rose Campbell and trained by Steve Kiblin, it was
the second straight win for the 7-year-old mare Sportsmuffler
(Sportsmaster-Whatifthere'smore). The victory moved her seasonal earnings to
$12,500 and $300,306 lifetime.
Davis Jr. completed the evening with three wins with
Cummings and Monti each notching a pair. Cummings and Kiblin each had a pair of
training victories.
Racing will resume on Friday evening at 5 p.m. with an
8-race card to be presented.
