HAMBURG, N.Y. --- HP Sissy used a slingshot move around the
clubhouse turn the final time and that big brush proved to be the right one as
she captured the $11,500 Class A Open Handicap Pace for the filly and mares at
Buffalo Raceway Wednesday evening (April 24).
Entering the event with five victories in 10 starts and only
finishing out of the money in just one race, HP Sissy was surprisingly
overlooked by the betting public. She posted a half length win over the heavily
favored Lady London in a seasonal best 1:54.4 over the fast track and returned
$14.60 to her faithful backers.
After watching You Mach Me Crazy put up fractions of :27.3
and :57.0 to the opening half, HP Sissy and driver Jim Morrill Jr. tipped
three-wide midway around the third turn and left the pace-setter in her wake.
Easily clearing to the top hitting the three-quarter
station, HP Sissy paced home smartly from there as Lady London (Shawn
McDonough) couldn't cut into the lead. Sportsmuffler (Drew Monti) managed to
take the third place position.
Owned by Finocchario's Dream Stable and trained by Mike
Ohol, HP Sissy (Up The Credit-Monica Blue Chip) has won six times in 11 tries.
The victory upped the 6-year-old mare's earnings to $38,583 in 2019 and
$289,719 lifetime.
Morrill Jr. and Ray Fisher Jr. finished the evening with
triples while McDonough had a pair of winners. Trainers Jim Graham and Ryan
Swift were victorious twice.
Racing will continue on Friday evening at 5 p.m. with a
nine-race card scheduled. There's a $768 carryover in the Pick-5 which begins
in the second race.
