WORKIN ONA MYSTERY CRUSHES IN BIG M FEATURE

By Dave Little, Meadowlands Media Relations

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – The puzzle that was the featured $38,000 Open Pace at The Meadowlands Saturday night turned out to be an easy one to solve, as Workin Ona Mystery blew away six overmatched foes during a thoroughly dominant 1:48.4 mile.

“I had the best horse I thought, short odds, and the inside three horses were kind of leaving for position, so it was pretty clear for me to get to the lead,” said winning driver Tim Tetrick. “From there, it was kind of my job to cut honest fractions.”

Workin Ona Mystery, who knocked heads with the Captain Crunches and Bettor’s Wishes of the world during the glamour boy 3-year-old colt and gelding pace stakes-race tour of 2019, has been getting his act back together of late and was simply superb, cutting out fractions of :27.1, :54.3 and 1:22 on the way to an easy 1¾-length score, his 14th from 42 career outings. My Pal Joe closed well along the pylons for second while Bee Two Bee outlasted 5-2 second choice Let It Ride N for third.

“He’s really rounded into form in his last few starts,” said Tetrick of Working Ona Mystery’s second-place finishes to Captain Barbossa (in a conditioned event) and Allywag Hanover (in the TVG Open Pace) in his last two outings. “[Trainer] Ronnie [Burke] has him going really well now. He’s really improving.”

A 5-year-old son of Captaintreacherous-Dragon’s Tale who is owned by Burke Racing, Milton Leeman, Alan Keith and Wingfield Brothers, Workin Ona Mystery paid $3.20 to his backers as the 3-5 public choice while lifting his lifetime bankroll to $804,289.

SEE YOU ON THURSDAY: Thursday racing returns to The Meadowlands on Dec. 2. First-race post time is 6:20 p.m. Thursday racing will also take place on Dec. 9.

LARRY THE LEGEND: One of the most popular race callers of this or any generation will be making an appearance at The Big M when live racing resumes.

Larry Lederman, who has been the announcer at Freehold Raceway, Garden State Park, Atlantic City Race Course and others during his career, will be on the microphone when racing takes place on Thursday at 6:20 p.m.

DOUBLE CARRYOVER: For the second straight race card, there were no winning tickets sold in the 20-cent Pick-6, meaning that when racing resumes on Thursday, there will be a carryover of $20,096 to get the pool off to a big start. Those who correctly selected five winners cashed in for $96.90.

Free past performances for all Meadowlands programs are available by going to playmeadowlands.com.

A LITTLE MORE: Tetrick led the driver’s colony with three winners, while Andy McCarthy and Yannick Gingras both registered a pair of victories. Gingras finished the weekend with six winner’s circle visits. … Todd McCarthy did not drive on the card, as he suffered a sprained ankle after taking a spill Friday night. He hopes to be back at The Big M on Thursday. ... All-source handle totaled $2,195,914.

JUST ANOTHER BIG NIGHT AT THE BIG M

Meadowlands Media Relations

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – The final “circle-worthy” date on the 2021 harness racing calendar proved to be deserving of every bit of bright ink, as handle cleared the $3-million mark on “Fall Final Four/TVG Finals Night” last Saturday (Nov. 20) at The Meadowlands, marking the first time since 2013 that that hurdle was cleared on the final big night of racing of the year.

“We are thrilled that the handle was very strong for the TVG Finals and the Final Four,” said track Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Jason Settlemoir. “The inaugural TVG in 2013 featured the much-hyped race between the classic champion and richest horse of all time, Foiled Again, and the 3-year-old sensation, Captaintreacherous. We have never been able to get near that handle figure until this year. The total handle of almost $3.4 million was sensational, when you consider that 2013 was the only year that TVG Finals Night did over $3 million. That is, until this year.”

Total play on last Saturday’s card was $3,390,635, which was just $100,000 less than what was put in play in 2013.

THE WINNERS: The eight-pack of stakes events had purses that totaled $2,689,100, and the winners of those races read like a who’s who of big 2021 hitters:

·         TVG Open Pace: Allywag Hanover locked up divisional honors with an off-the-pace win in 1:48.1.

·         TVG Open Trot: 2019 Hambletonian champion Forbidden Trade put his hat in the ring for a possible divisional Dan Patch Award.

·         TVG Mare Pace: Lyon’s Sentinel clinched her division after getting some revenge on arch-rival – and Breeders Crown winner – Rocknificent.

·         TVG Mare Trot: Brett Pelling trainee When Dovescry continued her fabulous campaign by taking down Atlanta.

·         Governor’s Cup (2YOCGP): Early Action took down Hammering Hank, who lost for only the third time in 11 starts this year. Early Action, who was fifth in the Breeders Crown and second in the Kindergarten, has won eight-of-13 starts during 2021.

·         Valley Victory (2YOCGT): Fast As The Wind skimmed the cones for a second straight start to take down primary foe Coach K Hanover to complete a sweep of the Kindergarten and Valley Victory.

·         Three Diamonds (2YOFP): Niki Hill likely swung a few Horse of the Year voters into her camp after another thoroughly dominant performance. She’s lost only once this year in 10 starts and has banked over $900,000.

·         Joviality S (2YOFT): A second straight masterful drive from Brian Sears got the Marcus Melander trainee to the winner’s circle nine days after her Breeders Crown score.

SEE YOU FRIDAY: The day after Thanksgiving, live racing resumes at The Big M. Racing will take place Friday and Saturday. Post time for the first race is 6:20 p.m.

“On behalf of Mr. Gural, and everyone at The Meadowlands,” said Settlemoir, “we would like to wish everyone a joyous, happy and healthy Thanksgiving holiday.”

Meadowlands TV’s “Racing from The Meadowlands” live pre-game show gets underway both nights at 5:47 p.m. with the track’s regular team of Dave Brower and Dave Little providing on-set commentary.

FREE PROGRAMS! Talk about a great deal! Free program pages for every race of every Meadowlands race card are always available. Just go to playmeadowlands.com to access the no-cost past performances.

Major Al-Mar headlines Friday Cal Expo Trot

By Mark Ratzky, publicity – Cal Expo Harness

Major Al-Mar, who chased home track record holder Pridecrest in last week’s Open Trot, finds a much cozier spot in Friday evening’s $5,850 Trot.

A reminder that beginning this week, Cal Expo will be racing on a Friday/Sunday night schedule.

A nine-race Watch and Wager LLC card is on tap with first post set for 6:45 p.m. and the main event goes as the fourth on the program. There will also be an Open III Pace and two elimination heats for the Donald Arnstine Pace.

Major Al-Mar is a 5-year-old son of Money Talks from the Andover Hall mare Vestal Hanover who is owned by Richard Bertrand and Vikki Pfeilsticker and is conditioned by Bertrand and will once again have the

A winner of 10 of his 72 starts, including a 1:55 1/5 standard established over this track earlier this season, Major Al-Mar was able to sit the pocket behind heavily-favored Pridecrest on opening week with Tony Sucarotte in the sulky and while holding his own, was no match for the 1-9 Pridecrest that evening.

Boaster Coaster turned in a sharp qualifier here on November 19 and may prove the main threat as he invades from the East for trainer Jenna Cornelison, who co-owns the trotter with Tyler Gunderson.

The 3-yar-old son of Troxton sports a sparkling 1:53 mark at Lexington this year and looked very sharp going coast-to-coast in his qualifier in a 1:58 mile that saw him increasing his advantage in the lane.

Taking them on are the Richard Schneider-trained Jesse’s Student from the rail slot; Flameon from the Gordie Graham barn and Hot Chapter, who takes his lessons from Marco Rios.

Roland, Svendsen fly from the gate

Mooney Svendsen and Nick Roland turned in :26 and change quarters on last Friday’s opening night card, each making five winner’s circle appearances on the 12-race program.

Among Svendsen’s winning drives was the Kathie Plested-trained Pridecrest in the featured Open Trot, living up to the 1-9 backing with a coast-to-coast romp.

“This is the 22nd year I’ve been coming out here and I love it,” Svendsen related after his five-bagger. “I looked over the card and thought I had a lot of good chances, but you never know.

“Usually on an opening night like that one with so many horses coming off layoffs, I would tend to take them back and come on late, but this year I decided to be more aggressive and it worked out.”

Pridecrest, who owns the 1:53 2/5 track record here, was winning for the 46th time in his career and is now just over the $400,000 mark in career earnings. Mooney went right to the front with son of Angus Hall and never looked back.

“I’ve been driving him for three or four years now and he was just too classy for those horses. You can drive this horse any way you want, to the lead, tracking or from the back, and he’s always going to give you 100 per cent. He’s been awesome all year.”

For the record, Svendsen’s other victories came behind Its Pointless in the co-feature; Changing Colors, Dislocator and Bombay Hanover. “Its Pointless is another classy horse and I was very impressed with Dislocator, who we just got a month ago.

“He made a huge move at the half and had every right to get a little tired at the end. I’m looking forward to more wins with him.”

NIKI HILL REIGNS SUPREME IN SPARKLING THREE DIAMONDS SCORE

By Frank Cotolo for The Meadowlands

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – Niki Hill and driver Dexter Dunn proved again she is the best in the 2-year-old filly pacing division by commanding the win in the $359,450 Three Diamonds on Saturday (Nov. 20) at the Meadowlands. The time for the mile was 1:50.4.

Just after the first turn, Always Gonna B You fired fast to get the lead, but was rough gaited and broke stride, scattering the field. Joyride Hanover took advantage of the rumble to get the lead while Find Happiness charged first over only to give in to Treacherous Dragon as the busy first quarter went in :27.1.

Zooming past all of the shuffling, Niki Hill began her path to victory with Treacherous Dragon following and Dont Fence Me In going first up as the half was clocked in :55.4.

It was all Niki Hill from there. The Always B Miki juvenile began to draw away around the second turn, easily dismissing Dont Fence Me In and eating real estate in the stretch with a three-quarters in 1:24.2 and an unchallenged win by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:50.4. Treacherous Dragon held for second and Don’t Fence Me In was for show.

Trainer Chris Ryder said, "[Dexter] asked her for some kick in the stretch, just spoke to her briefly, and he said she had plenty left. She just took off; whenever he asked her, she just gave him more.”

Ryder expected a big mile out of her in the Three Diamonds, even though she had a skin problem the last two weeks. “Sometimes that can knock a horse,” he said, “but she's a champion. It’s so rewarding when you get a horse like this. She's done so much for us and I can't say enough good about her."

Tom Hill of the United Kingdom owns Niki Hill. She has earned $904,556 this season, winning nine of 10 starts She paid $2.20 to win.

DUNN, ‘DUNBAR’ TEAM UP TO TAKE BIG M FEATURE

By Dave Little, Meadowlands Media Relations

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – For the hottest driver in harness racing, it didn’t matter that he was unfamiliar with his horse in the featured $36,000 high-end conditioned trot at The Meadowlands Friday night, he just did what he usually does.

Win.

Dexter Dunn got behind Dunbar Hall for the first time ever and the duo managed to gun down 3-5 favorite JL Cruze in deep stretch as the 7-year-old gelded son of Deweycheatumhowe-Debbie Hall recorded his second straight score after stopping the clock in 1:52.4.

“I knew I was going to be in the mix,” said Dunn. “I hadn’t raced the horse before but he did explode off a helmet last week. I got a pretty good drag into it.”

It didn’t look good for the new team of Dunbar and Dunn as JL Cruze ranged up to grab the top just after the quarter and settled in on the point before hitting the half in an unpressured :55.2.

Dunbar Hall was sixth in the seven-horse field (after avoiding early breaker Gotwuteverittakes in the early going) down the backside before picking up cover from Deltasun A just after the half. When Deltasun A began to weaken on the far turn, Dunn moved his horse three-wide for the drive to the wire.

“I didn’t know my horse that well. I went three wide before the straight,” said Dunn. “I was told by Rico [Robinson, who works for winning trainer Jeff Cullipher] before the race he’s better when he comes off cover, so getting away sixth wasn’t too bad a spot.”

Dunbar Hall chipped away at JL Cruze’s edge through the stretch and was clear by three-quarters-of-a-length at the wire. Double Account rallied well to just miss getting the place spot.

“I knew the stretch was going to be a battle, but in the back of my head, the way he ran home last week, he flew home, so I was hoping he had enough trot left.”

As the 9-5 second choice, Dunbar Hall returned $5.80 to his backers in upping his lifetime numbers to 28 wins from 107 starts and earnings of $479,348 for owners Pollack Racing and Cullipher.

A LITTLE MORE: After winning five times last Saturday – which included three Kindergarten Classic Finals – Dunn won three more on the Friday card to give him eight victories over the last two programs. … Scott Zeron, Yannick Gingras and Corey Callahan all had driving doubles while Edwin Quevedo trained a pair to victory lane. … All-source handle totaled $2,397,523. … Racing resumes Saturday at 6:20 p.m. with a huge card, as eight high-powered stakes events will be in the spotlight on Fall Final Four/TVG Finals Night. Purses for the stakes events total $2.6 million.

Pridecrest heads Friday’s Cal Expo opening-night feature

By Mark Ratzky, publicity – Cal Expo Harness

Watch and Wager LLC is set to kick off its 10th year as operator of Cal Expo harness on Friday evening with track record holder Pridecrest heading the featured $6,500 Open Trot.

Following the lone night of racing this week, the 46-night session will be conducted on a Friday/Sunday schedule with first post at 6:30 p.m. on Fridays and 4:50 p.m. on Sundays.

The feature will go as the fourth on a 12-race program and Pridecrest will leave from the assigned outside post in the field of six for trainer Kathie Plested and pilot Mooney Svendsen.

Pridecrest trotted the fastest mile in Cal Expo history back on November 3 of 2017, touring the oval in 1:53 2/5 with Luke Plano at the controls. He also owns the track record at Running Aces, going a 1:53 4/5 mile in 2018 with Steve Wiseman in the sulky.

Friday’s main event sees him squaring off against Hypocrisy with James Kennedy; Major-Al Mar, Tony Succarotte; Hot Chapter with Luke Plano in the sulky and Jesse’s Student, who leaves from the cozy rail slot.

The co-feature goes as the ninth on the card and finds Its Pointless looking to add another Cal Expo victory to his resume as he leaves from the No. 8 slot in the $5,500 Open III Pace.

Its Pointless, who hails from the Gordie Graham barn, tuned up for Friday’s outing with a smart qualifier last week, prevailing by a head in that 1:55 3/5 tour that should prove an excellent tightener.

Low takeout wagers return; revised Pick 6 on tap

Fans will find the return of three bets with a reduced 16 percent takeout rate and a revised Pick 6 when harness racing returns to Cal Expo on Friday night.

The three wagers with the reduced takeout are the 20-cent early and late Pick 5 and the 20-cent Pick 4, with the latter featuring a $25,000-guaranteed gross pool.

While the last meet’s Pick 6 was a 10-cent unique jackpot wager, the Pick 6 is now a 20-cent bet while returning to the “old school” format with an 80/20 split in place.

Last meet’s leading driver Nick Roland is set to compete in 11 of the 12 races on Friday night, while the last meet’s leading trainers Rick Bertrand and Gordie Graham have performers set for action throughout the evening.

After this week, the trotters and pacers will be in action on a Friday/Sunday schedule with first post at 6:30 p.m. on Fridays and 4:50 p.m. on Sundays with plenty of simulcast action from out of state to supplement the programs.

Friday’s simulcast program will include both harness and quarter horse action from Meadowlands, Woodbin/Mohawk, Lone Star and Evangeline Downs.

Overnight purses have been raised to a nightly level of $54,000, a level not seen since 2007.

ONE MORE HUGE SATURDAY ON TAP AT THE BIG M

Meadowlands Media Relations

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – The stars will be out and shining brightly Saturday night at The Meadowlands, as the final circle-worthy date on the harness racing calendar for the year 2021 will feature many of the game’s top performers during a power-packed 14-race card on “Fall Final Four/TVG Finals Night”. Post time for the first race is 6:20 p.m.

Plenty will be on the line as divisional honors and – quite possibly – Horse of the Year could be won or lost as four events for 2-year-olds and four others for 3-years-old and older will be contested on the program for horses of each sex and gait. The great eight are:

·         Race 4 – $413,600 Valley Victory for 2-year-old trotting colts and geldings: Kindergarten winner Fast As The Wind searches for his third straight victory. He missed by just a half-length from post 10 to winner Rebuff in the Breeders Crown on Oct. 29.

·         Race 5 – $175,000 TVG Mares Pace: Rocknificent and Lyons Sentinel, the best two older pacing mares in training who finished 1-2 in the Breeders Crown, renew their rivalry.

·         Race 6 – $479,450 Goldsmith Maid for 2-year-old trotting fillies: Two weeks after going off stride and failing to qualify for the Breeders Crown Final, Venerable dominated her foes in the Matron to win for the ninth time this year in 10 tries.

·         Race 7 – $175,000 TVG Mares Trot: Bella Bellini, the Hambletonian Oaks and Breeders Crown champion, takes on a big challenge as the 3-year-old takes on the likes of older standouts Felicityshagwell S, the Breeders Crown champion, and Atlanta, the co-fastest trotting mare in history (1:49) who recently ran her lifetime earnings past the $3-million mark.

·         Race 8 – $386,600 Governor’s Cup for 2-year-old pacing colts and geldings: Hammering Hank hit it out of the park in the Kindergarten to up his stats to eight wins from just 10 starts.

·         Race 9 – $350,000 TVG Open Trot: A remarkably wide-open event features Beads, who was second after displaying speed a week ago in a conditioned event, taking on Amigo Volo, second a week ago to a fast-closing When Dovescry in another conditioned race.

·         Race 10 – $359,450 Three Diamonds for 2-year-old pacing fillies: Niki Hill has been nothing short of a superstar all season long, as her record of eight wins from nine starts, which includes victories in the She’s A Great Lady, Breeders Crown and Kindergarten, prove.

·         Race 11 – $350,000 TVG Open Pace: Despite failing to win the Breeders Crown and Potomac in his last two, Allywag Hanover is hanging on to the lead in the division by a thread. Looking to overtake him is the horse who nailed him in the Crown, Ocean Rock, who has taken the Dayton Derby, Hoosier Park Pacing Derby and Ewart during his superb 2021 season.

Purses for the eight stakes events total $2,689,100.

“The Meadowlands is proud to present these classic races on a mile track,” said track Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Jason Settlemoir. “If the Breeders Crown was any indication, the racing fans and horseplayers will likely see some of the greatest performances of the year at The Meadowlands this Saturday night.”

THAT’S A HALF-DOZEN, COUSIN: The Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown Standardbred Poll weekly Top 10 that came out Tuesday (Nov. 16) morning revealed that six of the horses listed will be at The Big M Saturday. Here is the poll from top to bottom, with horses racing at The Meadowlands Saturday bearing an asterisk (*): Test Of Faith, Jujubee, *Niki Hill, *Bella Bellini, *Lyons Sentinel, *Venerable, *Allywag Hanover, Perfect Sting, Ecurie D DK, *Atlanta.

SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIALS: Plenty of The Meadowlands’ popular wagers that sport a low 15 per cent takeout will be available on the Saturday night card. They are:

·         Race 1: 20-cent Pick-5

·         Race 4: 20-cent TVG All-Stakes Survivor Pick-7

·         Race 6: 50-cent Early Pick-4 ($50,000 guaranteed pool)

·         Race 8: 20-cent Pick-6

·         Race 10: 50-cent Late Pick-4 ($50,000 guaranteed pool)

·         Race 14: 10-cent non-jackpot Pentafecta/Hi-5

DON’T MISS THE SHOW: Racing continues at The Meadowlands through the end of the year with the usual Friday-Saturday schedule, with one exception, as there will be no live racing on Dec. 24 or Dec. 25.

TONY BELTRAMI WINS AHDC TROT WITH INNISFALLEN TODAY AT HARRAH'S PHILADELPHIA

by John Manzi for the AHDC

Northeast Philadelphia, Pa.--The day was clear,  the track was fast, and Tony Beltrami scored another driving victory today when he sent Innisfallen to the lead when the wings of the mobile gate folded and then proceeded to make every pole a winning one en route to an oh-so-easy five -length triumph in the$9,900 American Harness Drivers Club trot today at Harrah's Philadelphia.

They turned back five others to score a 1:56.1 victory in the series first attempt in northeast Philadelphia

Sent off as the 3-5 favorite from the five hole Beltrami knew he had the best horse in the race and when one knows that he's the best the front end is the most advantageous place to be.

It took a steppy :27.4 first panel to gain command but it didn't phase Innisfallen. Once on top he began to open daylight on his competitors at the half Beltrami had a two length lead on Bob Hechkoff's, River Otter. As Innisfallen neared the three quarters he began to open daylight on the short field and when he turned for home Beltrami had to look back to notice Winneress and driver Tony Verruso had trotted by River Otter and was now second. But it was all academic  as Innisfallen cruised to a 5-1/2 length triumph over Winneress  River Otter hold on for third money.

As the odds-on favorite, Innisfallen, a 5-year old Explosive Matter gelding, paid a paltry $3.40 for win. He is owned by Paul Fusco and Bramdeo Singh and trained by Paul Fusco.

HAMMERING HANK POUNDS OUT KINDERGARTEN CLASSIC FINAL VICTORY

By Frank Cotolo, for The Meadowlands Racetrack

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – Thundering to the top approaching the half, Hammering Hank and driver Dexter Dunn won the $238,700 Kindergarten Classic Final for 2-year-old pacing colts and geldings Saturday night (Nov. 13) at The Meadowlands in 1:51.1.

PJ Lou and JD fired from the outside with Early Action holding third and Hammering Hank fourth over Camouflage Money. Early Action took to the outside at the :28 first panel and got the lead as Hammering Hank stepped away from the pylons, shooting by Early Action to take command of the field.

The half went in :55.2 as Hammering Hank secured the lead over Early Action. Camouflage Money moved to race first over, followed by Captainryanmichael, but those two stalled wide of PJ Lou as Mad Max Hanover sprung into gear at three-quarters in 1:23.3.

Meanwhile on the front, there was no challenge for the lead late. Hammering Hank rolled home in hand to a lifetime-best 1:51.1 to get his eighth win from 10 starts. Early Action gave futile pursuit to settle for second with PJ Lou holding third and Mad Max Hanover rallying for fourth.

This was Dexter Dunn’s third win in four Kindergarten Classic Finals on the evening.

Brett Pelling trains the son of Captaintreacherous who has now earned $238,683. 3 Brothers Stables, Pelling Racing and Rojan Stables own Hammering Hank.

Dexter Dunn said Hammering Hank gave him “the impression that when you ask him to do what you want, he'll do it. Once we got away fourth, we were first over probably before the half, so we made a move and sprung home great.”

"He's been like that from the get go when he was young,” Brett Pelling said. “When we were training in sets and even when we were going our 2:30 miles. You would look across and he was always right there and effortless—and effortless speed is real speed. We knew he would just carry on with it.

"Brett's done a great job with him,” Dunn said. “He's turned into a great, versatile horse and his high speed obviously helps him a lot. He's done it both ways now.”

Off the 4-5 favorite, Hammering Hank paid $3.80 to win.

A LITTLE MORE: Dunn showed no ill effects of the spill he was involved in at Harrah’s Philadelphia on Sunday, as he and his sore leg won two races in addition to his Kindergarten hat trick, giving him five victories to lead the driver’s colony, helping the 32-year-old native New Zealander’s case as he bids for a third straight United States Harness Writers Association Driver of the Year trophy. … Both 50-cent Pick-4s blew past the $50,000 guarantee with ease as both pools exceeded $90,000. … All-source handle on the 13-race card totaled $2,768,005, sending total weekend wagering past the $5-million mark. … Racing resumes Friday at 6:20 p.m.

NIKI HILL REIGNS IN KINDERGARTEN CLASSIC FINAL

By Ray Cotolo, for the Meadowlands Racetrack

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – In the hangover from the star campaign of Party Girl Hill, the duo of owner Tom Hill and trainer Chris Ryder continue to ride their second wave of pacing filly power with the Always B Miki debutante Niki Hill, who strode to a 1:50.4 win in taking the $220,110 Kindergarten Classic Final for 2-year-old pacing fillies on Saturday (Nov. 13) at The Meadowlands.

Dont Fence Me In dashed for the lead from post 9 with Find Happiness securing the pocket and Treacherous Dragon racing third before pulling off the pylons and swooping for the lead into a :27.3 first quarter. Niki Hill tracked Treacherous Dragon’s move up the backside and cleared command before a :55.2 half while cruising uncontested around the final turn.

By three-quarters in 1:23.4, Treacherous Dragon mounted a bid from the pocket after Niki Hill. But with a few whip taps from driver Dexter Dunn, Niki Hill stayed to task and kept Treacherous Dragon behind to win by 1-1/2 lengths under wraps in the end. Hood Party gained ground from a minor first-over bid to take third from Dont Fence Me In, who settled for fourth.

“We got lucky,” trainer Chris Ryder said after the race on having another prominent pacing filly just one year after Party Girl Hill. “[We] did a little bit of homework and stumbled across her – she was right in front of me actually a half a dozen times. I always say usually what you’re looking for is right in front of you, but we managed to get the right one and it’s a thrill.

“There’s always something they can’t do, but she’s doing everything we’re asking of her,” Ryder also said. “There’s a bit of pressure when you’re supposed to win, but all the credit goes to her. She’s just terrific. When you’re training horses and racing a lot of horses, you know a lot of things can go wrong. But terrific horses overcome problems, and she’s done that so far.

Winning her eighth race from nine starts, Niki Hill has banked $732,866 through her season, which includes victories in the $395,395 Shes A Great Lady at Woodbine Mohawk Park and the $600,000 Breeders Crown Final two weeks ago at The Meadowlands. Ryder also said that, assuming Niki Hill exits the race sound, they will enter her for one more start this year in the Three Diamonds next Saturday (Nov. 20) at The Meadowlands.

Sent the 1-5 favorite, Niki Hill paid $2.40 to win.

MISSWALNER FASHION COMMANDS KINDERGARTEN CLASSIC FINAL

By Frank Cotolo, for The Meadowlands Racetrack

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – Misswalner Fashion and driver Tim Tetrick won the $294,580 Kindergarten Classic Final for 2-year-old trotting fillies Saturday night (Nov. 13) at The Meadowlands in a lifetime-best 1:53.3.

The 10-horse field was reduced to eight when the gate opened as Lookin Chic refused to trot and Palmero Hanover broke. Valentina Blu went straight for the front but was in second quickly as Misswalner Fashion grabbed the top and glided into a :28.1 first quarter. Little Pink Lies sat third and favorite Lilbitalexis rolled along in fourth.

Misswalner Fashion stayed in command going to the half in :57 while Lilbitalexis came first over, giving cover to Brickhouse Babe. Neither made up much ground as Misswalner Fashion began to draw off, clocking three-quarters ahead by three lengths in 1:24.3.

The daughter of Walner continued to dictate the mile in deep stretch, maintaining her three-length advantage while Valentina Blu chased in second and Primadonna Deo made a late rush to the center of the track to take third from Brickhouse Babe.

Misswalner Fashion collected her fifth win in eight starts under the supervision of trainer Jim Campbell. Jules Siegel and Judith M. Peres own Misswalner Fashion, whose earnings rose to $211,638. She paid $5.60 to win.

After the race, Tim Tetrick emphasized his confidence in the “really nice filly.” He said she “felt great cruising right along like she was doing no work. I knew [Lilbitalexis] would have to come first up so I let [my filly] trot pretty good around the turn and she finished up good. It was a “big mile for the young filly.”

Trainer Campbell said Misswalner Fashion likes The Meadowlands, but she surprised him racing at The Red Mile. “She made a break the first week and then raced kind of dull the second week and that surprised me but I'm glad she picked tonight.”

She was a late starter this season but “It wasn’t by design,” Campbell said. “She baby raced early. We were going to race her in the first leg of the sires stakes but she came up sick. We weren't going to try to rush her back. We just took our time with her. It worked out okay. She finishes with a nice year and hopefully she'll come back and be a good filly for us next year.”

LAUREN HARMON WINS $12,500 GLADA FALL SERIES FINAL AT NORTHFIELD PARK;; MANNY MILLER COPS $8500 CONSOLATION

Northfield, Ohio--The fall series finals of the Great Lakes Amateur Drivers Association's trots went to post tonight at Northfield Park with Lauren Harmon winning the $12,500 series final with her own Emerald Chip in 1:56.3 while Manny Miller copped the $8500 consolation with Mesmerized in 1:59.4.

After starting from the pole position  in the series finale Ms Harmon  left sharply with Emerald Chip only to yield command to Jamie Coffy and Rev It Up Man as they led the field by the quarter in :28.2. Coffy then kept the pedal to the metal and was on top at the halfway point in :57.1. Meanwhile Harmon was getting a two-hole trip which continued all the way to the top of the lane at which point  Emerald Chip  rallied to take command and then go on to a solid one length triumph.over Rev It Up Man Two lengths farther back Eddie Miller and Next Woman Up.garnered the show dough.

Emerald Chip is  a veteran 8-year-old Chip Chip Hooray gelding who is also trained by Ms Harmon. Sent off at odds of 4.5 to one, he paid $11.00 for the win..

In the series consolation Steve Oldford grabbed the lead Kafir Kemp and they showed the way by the first quarter in :29.1 and they got first call as they zipped by the hlf in :59.3. At that point Manny Miller moved Mesmerised off the pylons and they went head to head with Kafir Kemp up the backside and into the final turn. But when the headed for paydirt Kafir Kemp tired and Mesmerised opened a short lead which was needed  to hold off a charging Dominus Hanover (Tim Miller).

In the deep stretch both trotters were heads apart all the way to the wire but Mesmerised prevailed by a  neck.  Fulton's Fury finished third for Darrell Rideout.

Mesmerised is a 9-year-old Cantab Hall gelding owned by Kennedy Sports LLC. and trained by Clair Umholtz. He paid $14.20 for win.

FAST AS THE WIND BREEZES THROUGH TO KINDERGARTEN CROWN

By Ray Cotolo, for the Meadowlands Racetrack

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – Driver Dexter Dunn may have been locked for life with Fast As The Wind around the final turn, but just enough room opened at the pylons for the 3-2 favorite to skim through and nail the 3-2 second choice Coach K Hanover at the line of the $300,960 Kindergarten Classic Final for 2-year-old trotting colts and geldings on Saturday (Nov. 13) at The Meadowlands.

Fast As The Wind fired off the wings from post 9 for the front but settled for the pocket as Ake Svanstedt and Coach K Hanover clicked the first quarter in :27.2. Robertsin raced third up the backside with Pretender slightly gapped in fourth to a :56.1 half.

With action dormant through the first half, Pretender pulled out of fourth to the final turn and blitzed Coach K Hanover to three-quarters and pinned Fast As The Wind to the pegs in the process. Pretender stayed to Coach K Hanover’s side through three-quarters in 1:25.4 despite losing ground overland, but off the turn Pretender surged after Coach K Hanover while Fast As The Wind needed clearance.

“[Ake Svanstedt] pretty quickly put me back in the two-hole there didn’t he,” Dexter Dunn said after the race. “I actually went to move onto Andy [McCarthy driving Pretender]’s back coming off the three-quarters there and Ake [Svanstedt]’s one kicked pretty hard when he saw me do that. So I thought I was going to lose a couple lengths if I had to go around Andy’s horse and I took my chance and he got up just in time.”

Luck for Dunn came at the misfortune of Andy McCarthy, whose colt lost stride as he hit the wheel of Coach K Hanover while the tempo-setter drifted off the pylons. The developed opening gave Fast As The Wind a wide enough lane to scoot into competition late and land a head in front of Coach K Hanover at the end of a 1:55 mile. Pretender’s break in stride fell as interference by Coach K Hanover, prompting the judges to disqualify him from second to fifth. Robertsin was elevated from third to second with Ken’s Walner assuming third and Pretender taking fourth.

“[Ake Svanstedt] had a glance around, I don’t know if he wasn’t happy on the front with his one,” Dunn said after the race. “But as soon as I came off his helmet, he went on a bit so we dove back in there. Fast As The Wind is just so versatile – you use him off the gate, he’ll drop in a hole, relaxes and does his best at the end of the mile.”

Fast As The Wind, a colt by Cantab Hall conditioned by Tony Alagna, now owns four wins from 14 starts and has banked $361,274 for owners Leblanc And Kribbs, Joe Sbrocco and Joe Barbera, the last of whom shared his excitement for entering The Meadowlands winner’s circle.

“It’s a very tricky ground over here,” Barbera said, “but every once in a while you get to touch it. This is sacred ground and you’ve got to appreciate it because it’s hard to get here.”

Fast As The Wind returned $5 to win.

FRESHMEN SET FOR SEVEN-FIGURE SATURDAY IN BIG M’S KINDERGARTEN

Meadowlands Media Relations

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – Longtime Meadowlands fans might be feeling a bit nostalgic this weekend about a time long ago when the track hosted a handful of stakes races for 2-year-olds and called the event “Million-Dollar Babies”.

On Saturday (Nov. 13) night, the Kindergarten Classic Series Finals for freshmen of each sex and gait will bring back memories – and huge money – as the 13-race program will be highlighted by the four dashes that will go for purses totaling $1,054,350.

The biggest star of the night will attempt to keep shining in the ninth race filly pace, which sports a purse of $220,110. The horse to beat is the Chris Ryder-trained Niki Hill, whose last start resulted in a dominant win in the $600,000 Breeders Crown.

Brett Pelling student Hammering Hank, off a big win in the final Kindergarten leg a week ago, tops the 11th race $238,700 colts and geldings pace. He’s lost only twice in his nine-race career, both times to Breeders Crown champion Monte Miki.
