GERRY FIELDING WINS CATSKILL AMATEUR DRIVERS TROT

by John Manzi for the Catskill Amateur Drivers Club

Monticello, NY—Gerry Fielding is celebrating, and why not? After all, how many 78 year-old drivers still are able to drive much less rein a winner in pari-mutuel contest as Fielding did this afternoon at Monticello Raceway.

Up behind 13-1 shot Back On Board N from the pole position Fielding floated away from the mobile gate and settled in fourth along to pylons as Rock N Roll Legacy ( Joe Lee) led the field by the first stanza in 28 seconds. But when Lee began to back off the second quarter Fielding was out and going and by the half he was challenging for the lead.

“When Lee began to back off the second quarter I did not want tom get caught in so I moved first-up and when we headed up the backside for the second time I had cleared to the lead,” Fielding explained.

In front by a solid length Back On Board N led his competition by the third stanza in 1:28.1.

Once comfortably on top both Fielding and his pacer were looking for competition which didn't come until McKenzie Sowers and All Net took aim at the pacesetter as the field headed for home.. But their late charge wasn't enough and as they headed for paydirt it was clear that no one was going to catch Back on The Board N as he rallied to a 2-1/2 length triumph over All Net in a time of 1:58.1. Third place went to Midnight Shark (Chad Washington)

For Fielding, who doubles as the president of the Catskill Amateur Drivers Club, it was his 65th career driving victory and first one since 2018.

Back On Board N, an 11-year-old Christian Cullen gelding, is owned by Michael Elia and trained by Veronica Merton. He paid $29.20 for win.

Olford Takes AHDC Dash at Pocono

by Tony Verruso for AHDC

It was a scorching 89 degree late afternoon at Pocono and with the heat came invaders from around the country. Steve Oldford who runs GLADA, which is a Mid-West Amateur club and Dein Spriggs who runs FADC, which is the Florida Amateur club both made the trek to Northeastern PA and there presence was felt in a big way.

Dein Spriggs immediately sent Uva Hanover to the lead and he rang the first quarter teletimer in a blazing 26:4 putting last week's pace setter Da Boogie Man and Tony Ciuffetelli in the two hole. The field stayed in line until about the half when Oldford pulled Zooming to the outside and quickly forged up to challege Uva Hanover past the three quarter pole in 1:25:4. Midway through the lane Zooming cleared the tiring front runner and coasted to an easy 4 length victory. Hot Summer Knight and Robert Krivelin charged up for the place spot with last week's winner French Moni with Tony Beltrami steering secured the show money.

For Zooming that was his 67th career victory with earnings over 1.1 Million Dollars. It was Steve Oldford's 4th win of the 2021 campaign and 182nd of his career. The AHDC will take off next week for the 4th of July holiday but will be back slugging it out on July 11th.

Golden Kronos Wins Open Trot at Tioga

Golden Kronos (Wally Hennessey) takes the $9,000 Open Trot at Tioga Downs on Sunday (June 6).

Golden Kronos ($6.40) went straight to the lead but Lightfootedlegend (Renaldo Morales III) took over just before hitting the first quarter in :28.1.  Golden Kronos took back the lead as they headed for the stands for the first time.  He led to the half in :58.2 using a :30.1 second quarter.  Lightfootedlegend popped out of the pocket and made a challenge as they headed for the paddock turn.  Golden Kronos held the lead to three-quarters in 1:26.0.

As they made the turn for home Golden Kronos shook off Lightfootedlegend.  My Lindy Winner (Mike Merton) and Creekside Pete (Corey Braden) came charging late but Golden Kronos was too strong and equaled his lifetime best mile of 1:54.1.  My Lindy Winner was second and Creekside Pete finished third.

Golden Kronos is a 7-year-old gelding by Chapter Seven.  He is trained by Stanley Zombick Jr. for owners Myron Eckstein, Michael and William Pozefsky.  It was his fifth win this season.  He now has 28 career victories.

Marcus Miller and Mike Merton drove three winners on the card.  Miller combined for two of them with trainer Erv Miller.  They won with Geez Joe ($3.20) and Exotic Sand ($3.50).  His other win came with Lori's Rock Star ($20.60).  Merton combined for two of his wins with trainer Patti Harmon.  They won with Higherthananeagle N ($4.40) and Itsonlymoneyhoney ($4.40).  His other win was with Mayfair Well ($39.40).

Wally Hennessey leads all drivers with 58 wins so far this season.  Braxten Boyd is second on the list with 35 victories.  Mike Merton has reached the winner’s circle 25 times this season for third best.   Jody Jamieson (24) and Marcus Miller (12) round out the top five.

Mike Deters has trained the most winners this season with 22 wins.  Jim McDonald is second in wins with 15 tallies.  Erv Miller, Marc Major and Braxten Boyd have 11 wins each and are tied for third best.

Tioga Downs returns to Live racing on Saturday (July 3) starting at 6:15 p.m.

HANNERS BREAKS THROUGH, WINS TWO AT BIG M

By Dave Little, Meadowlands Media Relations

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – At just 20 years of age, Luke Hanners had already driven 125 winners in his harness racing career, but never tasted victory at The Meadowlands.

Until Friday night, that is.

The son of longtime horseman Brad Hanners scored in the ninth race for his first-ever victory at The Big M, and apparently liked it so much, he came back and won again in the 11th.

“I grew up in Ohio,” said Hanners, who had recorded 60 wins on the year coming into the night but was 0-for-26 at the mile oval. “Ever since I was young all I wanted to do was drive. My father helped me out a lot. I just wanted to try the East Coast and take on a new opportunity. It’s where everyone wants to be.”

Well-known on the Freehold and Rosecroft circuits, where Hanners has tallied 23 and 30 winners, respectively, this year, the young pilot came first-over from the half to score with 9-5 favorite Davids Coming Home in a TrackMaster 78.5 or less event in 1:51, drawing clear to a 2¼-length win for trainer Mark Capone.

Then, two races later, he put another Capone student, 6-1 fourth choice Stirling Ensign, on the lead and the duo were never headed, scoring by a neck in 1:54 in a TrackMaster 73.5 or less over even-money favorite Mr McDreamy, whose driver, 21-year-old Braxten Boyd, was seeking his first Meadowlands score.

But this night belonged to Hanners, who was thrilled at his accomplishment.

“Definitely this is the top,” said Hanners of what is now his career highlight. “This is where everyone wants to be. I sure hope to drive more here in the future.”

WHO’S HOT? GET IN THE KNOW AT THE BIG M

Meadowlands Media Relations

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – Playing the hot hand. Gamblers have been doing it as long as there has been action.

And there is no doubt that Meadowlands’ bettors cashed some tickets last Friday (June 18) night that they ordinarily might not have, as driver Dexter Dunn guided seven winners on the program, the second time in the last 18 months he has accomplished that remarkable feat. Saturday (June 19) belonged to trainer Ron Burke, who schooled four to victory lane.

“Playing the streaks,” said track Chief Operating Officer and General Manager Jason Settlemoir, “can make horseplayers money, if they know who’s hot.”

But if there aren’t obvious hot streaks, as in the case of Dunn and Burke, how else could one deduce that a particular driver or trainer might be a good one to follow before making a bet?

Digging for some information that is easy to access is one such way, and that information is always available on The Meadowlands website, playmeadowlands.com, by going to “News and Stats” and then clicking on the “Driver/Trainer Standings” tab.

Some of the numbers found reveal intel on the month of June that shrewd players would want to know:

Trainers:

·         Marcus Melander has sent out 10 starters, with six winners, two seconds and one third. That’s a Universal Trainer Rating (UTRS) of .723. His horses have been on the board at an amazing rate of .900, an invaluable piece of information for Trifecta players.

·         Brett Pelling’s line reads 10-5-3-0. UTRS, .667. OTB, .800.

·         Tony Alagna’s stats are 29-9-6-5. UTRS, .483. OTB, .689.

Drivers:

·         Dunn has 49 starts, with 13 wins, six seconds and eight thirds. UDRS, .388. OTB, .551.

·         Tim Tetrick: 64-16-10-8. UDRS, .378. OTB, .531.

·         Todd McCarthy: 62-13-13-9. UDRS, .375. OTB, .564.

·         Dave Miller: 44-8-7-5. UDRS, .308. OTB, .455.

It comes as little surprise that heading into this weekend’s action, Dunn leads the driver colony in wins during 2021 with 95. Andy McCarthy is next with 70. Yannick Gingras (69), Todd McCarthy (67) and Tetrick (53) round out the top five.

With a top-flight operation that spans from Indiana to New Jersey, Jeff Cullipher sits atop the trainer standings with 47 wins while national top gun Burke is next with 33. Rounding out the top five are Edwin Quevedo (27), Tony Alagna (21) and Kelvin Harrison (19).

Kyle Cummings Puts On Big Display At Buffalo

HAMBURG, N.Y. --- The Fourth Of July is a little more than a week away but 20-year-old driver Kyle Cummings started the fireworks early at Buffalo Raceway on Wednesday evening (June 23).

Those faithful backers of Cummings were rewarded handsomely as he steered home four winners, all bombs, to highlight the 11-race program. It was the first 'grand slam' of his young career.

He kicked off the evening by guiding Candy's Desire to a $33.20 victory in the first race and that was just a hint of things to come. Cummings followed that up with a $84.00 win aboard Sleepin In The Sun in the third race and then took Needlecrest to the winner's circle in the fifth with a $38.80 score. To cap the night off, Cummings drove JK Kissntell to a $9.20 decision in the tenth race.

Cummings added a second and two third place finishes on the night and also had a pair of winners as an owner.

Kyle's mother, Tammy Cummings, kept things in the family by collecting three training victories while Kevin Cummings, Kyle's uncle, had a double in the bike

The wins in the second and fifth events by Cummings threw a big monkey wrench into the Pick 5 feature, thus putting a $4,000 guaranteed pool on Saturday night's program, beginning in the second race.

In the $11,300 Class A Open Handicapped Pace for the fillies and mares, Protect Blue Chip (Jim Morrill Jr.) was able to 'protect' her front end position the entire mile and hold off the late charge from Lady Dudette (Kyle Cummings) by a head in a seasonal best of 1:55.4.

After a skirmish to the lead with Lady Dudette at the start, Protect Blue Chip ($4.20) was able to post solid fractions of :28.2, :57.3 and 1:27.1. It was a two horse break away down the home stretch with Protect Blue Chip managing to cling to the lead hitting the wire. Lady Dudette was a tough luck second while Xenia's Chip (Drew Monti) took the show position.

Co-owned by the Vogel & Wags Nags Stable, Team Rice Racing and Adelphi Bloodstock, Protect Blue Chip (American Ideal-Lucky Turn) is trained by Maria Rice. The victory jacked the 6-year-old mare's earnings to $28,740 and $156,105 lifetime.

Racing will continue on Saturday evening at 6 p.m. with a 13-race program set.

Meadowlands Racetrack Teams Up with Warrior Ranch Foundation

Meadowlands Racetrack

East Rutherford, NJ - The Meadowlands Racetrack has teamed up with Warrior Ranch Foundation for a driving program designed for military veterans and first responders.

Army Ranger Paul Martinez (ret.) and world-class harness trainer Robbie Siegelman will be managing the six week driving program at Warrior Ranch this summer.

Staff Sergeant Martinez is the author of “When the Killer Man Comes,” and has been supporting equine activities since he retired in 2014.

Robbie Siegelman has been a Standardbred trainer since 1982 and owned and operated Siegelman Stables for nearly 40 years.

This once in a lifetime experience will give five veterans a chance to learn how to care for horses, how to apply the racing tack and harness and also learn how to drive them on the track.

“As soon as Robbie Siegelman reached out I wanted to sponsor this program,” said Meadowlands Racetrack COO & GM Jason Settlemoir.  “It is important to support our veterans and thank them for all they have done for us.”

At the conclusion of the program the participants will have a “Night at the Races” at the Meadowlands Racetrack and have the chance to lead some post parades during the evening.

“We have received generous support from the Meadowlands to begin the program for our first group of veterans,” said Eileen Shanahan, President and Founder of Warrior Ranch Foundation. “We are seeking further support to fund the horses and their care.”

Minore Takes AHDC Trot at Pocono Downs

by Anthony Verruso

It was a warm day in the Pocono Mountains and when the AHDC race sprung from the gate the red clay surface got even hotter!

Last weeks winning driver Tony Ciuffetelli sent his new charge Da Boogie Man scorching to the lead opening up a three length margin on French Moni with Paul Minore and another three back to Pound Sterling and Bob Hechkoff in third. The hot first quarter went in 27:2 and set the stage for the next five eights mile of racing.

There was little change in the racing order as the field was well spread out. The only danger to the runaway leader was sitting right behind him in the presence of French Moni. Those two turned for home a good nine lengths better than the rest of the combatants. Unfortunately for Da Boogie Man he had no answers for the stalking pocket sitter as Minore guided his horse to the outside and charged right on by leader to win by a decisive four lengths in 1:56:3. Da Boogie Man held on for second and Sir John F with Pearly Allen got up for the show spot.

Sent off at odds of 9-1, that was both French Moni’s and Paul Minore’s second wins of the season. AHDC Amateur racing action will return next Sunday to the red clay oval!

Hennessey wins six and combines with Deters to sweep Tioga features.

Driver Wally Hennessey continues his domination at Tioga Downs with six more winners on the Sunday (June20) card.  He combined with trainer Mike Deters to take the co- features with Rebellious and Burn Notice.

Rebellious breezes to an easy win in the $10,000 Open Pace.

Rebellious ($5.80) jumped out to the lead.  American Zest A (Larry Stalbaum) went by and led to the first quarter in :26.4.  Rebellious took the lead back with a lap to go.  He led to the half in :55.3.  Kerford Road A (Mike Merton) made the first challenge as Rebellious hit three-quarters first in 1:23.3.

As they made the turn for home Rebellious broke lose and cruised to an easy win in 1:50.3.  American Zest A was second best with Kerford Road A settling for third.

Rebellious is a 7-year-old gelding by Mach Three.  He is owned by Joel Warner as well Deters.  It was win number seven in 2021.  He now has 48 career victories.

Burn Notice captures $10,000 Open Trot.

Burn Notice ($8.70) went right to the front and led to the first quarter in :28.0.  He used a :29.2 second quarter to hit the half first in :57.2.  Lightfootedlegend (Renaldo Morales III) made his move first-up and challenged all the way down the backstretch.  Burn Notice continued to lead as they hit three-quarters in 1:25.1.

As they headed for the stretch Burn Notice turned away Lightfootedlegend and put it in another gear to win in 1:53.3. My Lindy Winner (Mike Merton) put in a late bid but had to settle for second.   Lightfootedlegend was third best.

Burn Notice is a 6-year-old gelding by Cayenne Turbo.  He is owned by WHR Trust.  It was his sixth win this season.  He now owns 19 career victories.

Hennessey got his other wins with McWicked One ($4.40), Hard Rock Hulk ($4.90), Golden Kronos ($5.20), and Batting Stats ($12.40).

RACINE BELLE ‘KISSES’ THEM GOODBYE AT BIG M

By Dave Little, Meadowlands Media Relations

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – Racine Belle brought a powerhouse performance for a second straight start Saturday night, and in the process, equaled a world and track record first established 14 years ago in taking the $50,000 Kissin In The Sand Final for Open pacing fillies and mares at The Meadowlands.

Eight days ago, the 4-year-old daughter of So Surreal-Ty’s Artist paced a back half in :54 on the way to a lifetime-best 1:49.1 score, but this time around she was even better, according to the tele-timer as well as her driver.

“This week she was better,” said Jason Bartlett. “Last week, she was a little vulnerable down by the wire. She’s always been better out of a hole, but tonight, she was vicious.”

A David Dewhurst trainee, Racine Belle fired away from post four in the eight-horse field and hit the first quarter while parked in :27. A rated second split of :28.1 would follow, leaving plenty in the tank for later on.

With even-money favorite Lyons Sentinel inching closer on the outside, Racine Belle sprinted her third quarter in :26.3 as Bartlett wanted to open up on that foe, as well as the pocket-sitting Rocknificent.

“I knew Lyons Sentinel would be right there with me,” said Bartlett. “So I had my horse race a little harder through the last turn. I got a little bit of a gap off the turn. It makes a difference when you open up a little space.”

Racine Belle then paced home in :26.2 to complete a :53 final half to hold sway by a length over Rocknificent. Lyons Sentinel was third.

“As soon as she hears footsteps, she digs right in,” said Bartlett.

Owned by Chris S. Lawton and Dale G. Lawton, Racine Belle returned $9.80 as the second choice in the wagering. She’s now won 18 of 37 career outings, good for earnings of $417,526.

Her final time of 1:48.1 equaled the world and track record for 4-year-old pacing mares, set by My Little Dragon on July 13, 2007.

“I had no idea about the record,” said Bartlett. “She’s like driving a race car. It was the best night of her life.”

POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE: Also on the stakes-laden program were three divisions of the final leg of the Graduate Series for 4-year-olds, and standing out as the most impressive performer was Ruthless Hanover, who made it three wins in four Graduate tries, scoring in a lifetime-best 1:47.2 in the lone leg four division for pacers.

In a bulky 12-horse field, Andy McCarthy had Ruthless Hanover where he likes it, on the front end. The gelded son of Somebeachsomewhere-Rockaroundthetrack brushed to command before the half and tripped the beam at that station in :53.4, the same time he set when he won in 1:48 on May 15.

The Tom Cancelliere student then hit three-quarters in 1:20.4 as Allywag Hanover, the only horse to defeat ‘Ruthless’ this year (on June 5), came calling on the outside. But Ruthless Hanover shrugged off that challenger and held on determinedly for a head win over a fast-closing, pocket-sitting Cattlewash. Two-to-one favorite Captain Barbossa, whose 1:47.1 win last week remains the fastest in the sport this year, was right there at the wire to get third, with Allywag Hanover settling for fourth.

Ruthless Hanover returned $10.80 to win as the third choice in the wagering, and now has nine wins from just 16 career starts and a bank account of $166,875.

“I was just trying to figure out how to play it,” said McCarthy. “There wasn’t much speed, so I pushed off the gate. I think the horse might have been a touch sharper tonight [than in his win two back]. I think I went too slow in his last race [in the Allywag Hanover defeat]. I wanted to go a little bit bigger numbers tonight and play catch me if you can. The one good thing about this horse, he’s watching those horses on the outside and he does enough to make sure he stays in front. He knows what his job is.”

Taking the two leg three Graduate splits for trotters were It’s Academic (in 1:51.3), who made it three wins in three Graduate starts for trainer Ron Burke and driver Yannick Gingras, and the speedy Beads, who scored in 1:51 for Per Engblom and Dave Miller.

The Graduate Series Finals, one on the pace and one on the trot, will each have $250,000 (est.) dashes on July 10, which is Meadowlands Pace Eliminations Night. The top 10 point-earners who declare for the final will go behind the gate. To see the standings, go to http://playmeadowlands.com/generic.aspx?id=21732.

A LITTLE MORE: Meadowlands Pace winterbook favorite Perfect Sting sent a strong message to the 3-year-old colt pacing division by taking a conditioned event (where he faced seven older foes) in a lifetime-best 1:48.1 for trainer Joe Holloway and driver Miller. The son of Always B Miki had to battle back against a resilient Shake That House, who actually had a head up at both the three-quarter and stretch calls, to record a game head win as the 1-2 favorite. … Miller led the driver’s colony with four trips to the winner’s circle while Ron Burke schooled four to victory lane. … All-source handle totaled $3,012,752. … Racing resumes Friday at 6:20 p.m.

DUNN’S A NATURAL, ROLLS A SEVEN AT BIG M

By Dave Little, Meadowlands Media Relations

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – Dexter Dunn was on fire Friday night at The Meadowlands, guiding seven winners on the card to come within one of tying the all-time track record.

With the first race being a GSY Series event for amateur drivers, Dunn had work in all 13 races that remained. His first win of the night came in the second race with Always A Force (as the 7-2 third choice in the betting) before completing a natural hat trick by taking the third and fourth, respectively, with even-money choice May I Cruise West and 3-5 favorite Southwind Frost.

Did you think you were going to have a big night?

“I don’t really think like that,” said Dunn, the two-time defending United States Harness Writers Association Driver of the Year. “But I sort of thought I had some good chances later on the card.”

The native New Zealander ran his win total to five after Caviart Lotus exploded home to take the sixth as the even-money choice before Think Of Galaxies went wire-to-wire as the 5-2 second choice, holding on by a nose in the seventh.

Dunn upped his victory total to a half-dozen in the 10th after taking the featured high-end conditioned trot with Chaptiama, who won from first-over as the second most popular wagering entity at odds of 2-1, then came right back in the next race to score win No. 7 from post 10 with 1-2 public choice Stonebridge Soul.

“Chaptiama was awesome,” said Dunn. “A really nice horse to drive. He has a good attitude. He does what you want him to do. He couldn’t have done it any easier.

“I knew I had seven winners [after Stonebridge Soul won], but only after Jessica [Otten of The Big M] told me.”

The 31-year-old pilot was now just one winner away from tying the all-time Big M mark of eight winners on a card – a record shared by Mike Lachance and Brett Miller – but his big night would end there.

He had two good chances to possibly tie – and break – the record but went a tough parked-out trip with The Devils Own N (who finished fourth in the ninth at 4-5) and went off stride down the backstretch with Stirling Ensign (the 3-1 second choice) in the 14th and final.

“Stirling Ensign didn’t feel good on the first turn,” said Dunn.

Maybe so, but Dunn’s fans certainly did on this night.

SEVENTH HEAVEN: The last Meadowlands driver to record seven winners on a card – not surprisingly – was Dunn, who turned the trick on January 11th of last year. The Big M’s leading driver, who won six races on a card earlier this year (on Feb. 13), is the current driver-colony leader with 94 victories in 2021.

A LITTLE MORE: Tim Tetrick drove three winners on the card, including the Marcus Melander-trained Hambletonian hopeful Dancinginthedark M, who toyed with his foes as the 1-5 favorite while upping his seasonal record to two wins in two starts. The son of Readly Express stopped the clock in a lifetime-best 1:52.1. … All-source handle totaled $2,846,303. … Racing resumes Saturday at 6:20 p.m.

Tony Ciuffetelli wins inaugural AHDC at Pocono

by Tony Verruso

The AHDC made its first venture into Pennsylvania this past Sunday by way of Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs and it was quite the debut. In what was a very entertaining and well driven race, four horses blanketed the finish line and it was Tony Ciuffetelli who guided Inaperfectworld to victory with a backside rush.

The front end, as in many amateur events was hotly contested early with Dave Glasser sending the favorite Marion Gondolier to an early lead, but Jake Stillwell came charging at him with Fashion Possessed and secured the top just past the quarter pole in a rousing 28:2 first quarter. After a well rated second quarter, everyone seemed to think it was time to make a run at the pacesetter and began a wild charge up the back. Glasser pulled the pocket with the favorite at the same time Tony Ciuffetelli was coming first up just squeezing out in front of Steve Oldford and Zooming who also had ideas of jumping the gun on the rail riding horses in front of him. Marion Gondolier quickly retook the lead, but Ciuffetelli and Inaperfectworld was in high gear and rolled past the favorite to secure the lead just prior to the last turn. The race was far from over as Oldford had his mount in full stride and was gaining quickly on the new leader. Joe Lee was rolling Cr Blazin Beauty three deep to make his run for the wire with Marion Gondolier rushing up the inside. The four horses battled to the wire and Ciuffetelli held on to win by a head.

Ciuffetelli commented “that’s all you can ask for is a good tight competitive race and we were lucky enough to hold on for the victory”. It was Ciuffetelli’s fifth driving win of the season and second victory for Inaperfectworld who returned $8.40 to win in a time of 1:58:1. Zooming garnered the place spot with Cr Blazin Beauty rallying for third.

The AHDC will be returning to Pocono this coming Sunday for more action packed amateu racing thanks to the PHHA and race management at Pocono Downs.

Merton and Boyd each win four races at Tioga.

Mike Merton and Braxten Boyd drove four winners each at Tioga Downs on Sunday (June 13).

Merton gets an exciting win in the $11,000 Open Handicap Pace with Kerford Road A.

Crockets Cullen N took the early lead and hit the first quarter first in :26.2.  Night Watchman (Braxten Boyd) then came first-over to grab the lead with a circuit to go but could not clear Crockets Cullen N.  Crockets Cullen N reclaimed the lead and led to the half in :54.3.  He maintained the lead hitting three-quarters in 1:21.1.

As they made the turn for home Rebellious (Wally Hennessey) made a three-wide move and took the lead into the stretch.  Kerford Road A ($31.40) and Machiatto A (Jim Meittinis) both came flying from the back of the pack.  Kerford Road A took the lead in deep stretch and barely held off the late charge from second place finisher Machiatto A to win in a seasonal best of 1:51.0.  Rebellious hung on to finish third.  The exacta combination of Kerford Road A and Machiatto A paid a whopping $674.00.

Kerford Road A is a 7-year-old gelding by Somebeachsomewhere.  He is trained by Patti Harmon for owners Harmon Racing Stable, Winners Circle Racing and John Campagnuolo.  It was his third win this season.  He has now reached the winner’s circle 21 times in his career.
