Chatelroll (Frank
Affrunti) and Credit List (Justin Huckabone) capture the co-features at Vernon
Downs on Saturday (May 8).
Chatelroll ($3.40) was
impressive in the $7,000 Open Pace.
Bruce’s Magic (Leon
Bailey) took control and hit the first quarter in :27.0. He remained in charge and hit the half first
in :56.3. Wind Blast (Justin Huckabone)
came first-over as they approached the final turn. Chatelroll made his move going three-wide as
Wind Blast hit three-quarters first in 1:24.1.
As they made the turn for
home the race was over as Chatelroll came flying down the stretch to secure his
second straight Open win at Vernon in 1:52.1.
Bruce’s Magic was second best with Wind Blast getting third.
Chatelroll is a
5-year-old horse by Roll With Joe. He is
trained by George Ducharme for the Purple Haze Stables. He is now two for two in 2021. He now has 13 career victories.
Credit List ($5.10) runs
down Spoiler Alert (Truman Gale) to take the $7,000 Open Trot.
American JJ (Michael
Miller) was the first to get a call but Spoiler Alert took control before
hitting the first quarter in :27.1. He
used a :29.3 second quarter to hit the half in :56.4. Bourbon Express (John MacDonald) was the
first to make a move as they headed for the last turn. Spoiler Alert would shake him off and led to
three-quarters in 1:25.1.
Credit List found himself
last at the half and was fourth after three-quarters. He would make his move down the stretch. Spoilert Alert was game but Credit List was
too strong in the end and won in 1:54.1.
Spoiler Alert settled for second with Winding Hill (Jimmy Whittemore)
coming up to get third.
Credit List is a
6-year-old gelding by Credit Winner. He
is owned by Jonathan Applebaum and trained by Huckabone. It was his fifth win in a row and seventh of
the season. He now has 18 career
victories.
