HAMBURG, N.Y. --- Wagering may have been cancelled at
Buffalo Raceway due to electrical problems but Miss Irish Rose A was still all
business in taking the featured $9,500 Open Pace for the mares on Wednesday
night (Jan. 17) in a snappy 1:59.1.
A power surge at Buffalo Raceway caused a failure of
Amtote's PC Color Display Computer System and its backup. Due to the lack of
odds and prices being presented, wagering on the 11-race card was cancelled
with the races being run for purse money only.
Miss Irish Rose A (Larry Stalbaum) wasted no time in getting
the lead and posted fractions of 31.1, 1:01.1 and 1:30.2. A final panel of 28.4
by Miss Irish Rose A took the starch out of the remaining six mares as she
rolled to an easy 2-1/2 length victory over Little Joke (Billy Davis Jr.).
Tymal Luckynpink (Drew Monti) finished in third.
Owned by Stalbaum and trained by Kimberly Asher, the
6-year-old Miss Irish Rose A (McArdle-Kilinchy Rose) has now earned $85,249 in
her career.
Driver Shawn Gray had a good night in the sulky by posting
four wins while Ray Fisher Jr., Stalbaum and Davis Jr. each doubled. Gerry
Sarama and Asher each had a pair of training victories.
Due to a lack of entries, Friday night's card has been
cancelled at Buffalo Raceway but a 13-race program is set for Saturday evening
at 6 p.m.
The night will feature the Winter Harness Racing
Handicapping Challenge with $850 in prize money on the line. There is a $10
entry fee. Also in the Winner's Circle Cafe, there is $3 off the home style
turkey dinner.
