On a very rainy night in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the
bettors came out in force. The Total Handle of $3,559,673 was a
23-percent increase over the $2,890,130 wagered on the same Saturday in
2013. In addition, on-track handle showed slight gains despite the
rain-soaked evening.
On the racetrack, Corey Callahan continued his meteoric rise
with four more wins, pulling him within one win of Dave Miller who is second in
the driver standings. Most notably, Callahan guided Berkshire Bear to an
eight length romp in a 1:52.1 performance. Berkshire Bear is trained by
Doug Lewis for J&M Racing.
The Free For All Handicap went to the ageless Hypnotic Blue
Chip, who changed tactics tonight, going right down the road to a wire to wire
performance in 1:51. The win was one of two on the program for John
Campbell. Hypnotic Blue Chip is trained by Kevin Mc Dermott for owner
Francis Azur.
Dovuto Hanover did it again, going first over
and holding all challengers at bay in a B-1 pacing event, winning in 1:51.1 for
Ron Pierce. Dovuto Hanover is trained by Darran Cassar for Martin
Scharf. Hurrikane Kingcole was fourth in his return.
Racing returns on Thursday, featuring the second round of
the Super Bowl, with first post time at 7:15 P.M.
