YONKERS,
NY, Saturday, March 9, 2013--Millionaire Annie'swesterncard rolled from the
back of the pack Saturday night, winning Yonkers Raceway's $35,000 Open
Handicap Pace.
Content to watch early from post position No. 7, "Annie" saw 13-10
choice Electrofire (Brian Sears) step around Sapphire City (Brent Holland)
before a :27.2 opening quarter-mile.
With a :56.3 half came the outer
tier, led by Nob Hill High (Eric Goodell). That one pressured toward the 1:24.3
three-quarters, through Electorfire maintained a short lead into the lane. Last
week's winner, Tobago Cays (Jim Pantaleano), set it up from second-over, but he
was not the problem.
The problem was Annie'sweterncard, from third-up, picking everyone
off late. He defeated Sapphire City by three-quarters of a length in 1:52.2,
matching the fastest local mile of the season. Third went to Nob Hill High,
with Electrofire and Electric Oui (Dan Dube) rounding out the payees.
For Annnie'swesterncard, a 7-year-old Western Hanover gelding trained by Ron
Burke for himself (as Burke Racing), Weaver Bruscemi, Panhellenic and M1
Stables, he returned $6.60 (second choice) for his second win in five seasonal
starts. The exacta paid $48.80, with the triple returning $296.
The Raceway's five-night-per-week live schedule continues, with first post
every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:10 PM. Evening
simulcasting accompanies all live programs, with afternoon simulcasting
available around the NYRA schedule.
