Beachy Dream Remains Sharp At Buffalo

by Brian J. Mazurek, for Buffalo Raceway

HAMBURG, N.Y. --- Beachy Dream ($5.30) remained sharp as a tack on Saturday night (March 7) as he registered his third win in four tries with an exciting head decision over Tullow N in Buffalo Raceway's featured $11,000 Class AA pace in 1:57.2 over the good track.

Sitting in the pocket behind the pace-setting and eventual third place finisher Iluvtomakemoney (Ray Fisher Jr.), driver Kevin Cummings pulled Beachy Dream out just past the half which proved to be important as the race went on.

In the lane, Beachy Dream battled Iluvetomakemoney to the wire and were joined late as Tullow N (Shawn McDonough) came from the clouds to create the three-way photo. The picture showed Beachy Dream up by a head while Tullow N was second and Iluvtomakemoeny third.

Cummings said of the first over move. "Ray Fisher's horse (Iluvtomakemoney) is hit or miss on the front so I just wanted to play it safe." When asked if he saw Tullow N charging at the end, Cummings said, "I sure did see him coming but knew I had it at the wire."

Owned by Mike Torcello and conditioned by Gerry Sarama, it was the third victory in six appearances this year for the 9-year-old gelded Beachy Dream (If I Can Dream-Beachy Girl. The win moved his bankroll to $21,450 and $260,030 in his career.

Catch The Wave (Jim McNeight Jr.) rode 'the wave' to the winner's circle in taking a surprising head victory over Jim's Great in the $10,000 Class A pace.

Surfing the outer flow, Catch The Wave ($16.00) took command at the three-quarter marker and turned back the challenges of Jim's Great (Cummings) and Daylight Rush (David McNeight III) in 1:57.3.

Jim McNeight trained Catch The Wave (Jenna's Bech Boy-Hruby's N Emeralds) for owner Mike Ventura. The 8-year-old gelding has produced $15,120 in earnings this season and $178,504 lifetime.

There was no mistaking Casimir Oops in the $10,000 Class A-B Handicap Pace as he collected a 1-3/4 length score over Drunkonaplane in 1:56.3.

Sitting fourth and getting the first over trip down the backstretch the final time, Casimir Oops (Mike Baumeister) powered past the favored Percy's Z Tam, coasting to the win. Drunkonaplane (Billy Davis Jr.) rallied late and took the place position with Percy's Z Tam (Ray Fisher Jr.) hanging on for third.

Owned by Sandra Lee Cory and trained by Gregory Johnson, it was the first victory of the season for the 8-year-old Casimir Oops (Astronomical-Casimir Hugs). The win pushed his 2020 earnings to $10,124 and $48,868 in his career.

Davis Jr. had a four-bagger in the bike with Baumeister and Denny Bucceri getting two each. Maria Rice had a triple while Steve Andzel III and Ron Beback Jr. conditioned two winners apiece.

Racing will continue on Wednesday night at 5 p.m. with a 13-race card slated.
